Greetings, Comrades!
Our next executive meeting will be held Tuesday, June 15, 2010. Our regular membership meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 6, 2010. I hope to see a larger attendance at these upcoming meetings.
June Meeting
At our June 15th meeting, new officers for 2010 – 2011 will be installed at Post 144, beginning at 1830 (6:30 P.M.). The newly-elected officers of the Legion Auxiliary will also be installed at this event. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvre will be served.

Comrades, here it is July already, with the heat and humidity we have all come to love in Virginia. And the opportunity to start coaxing those 2011 dues out of all our annual paying members. We have not yet received our 2011 goals, but we can be sure they will be at least 242, and since we closed this year at 206, we have a lot of work to do.

The American Legion Battlefields Post #144 Executive Committee approved the start up of a Shooting Sports Program in conjunction with Boy Scout Troop 529. (Troop 529 is sponsered by American Legion Battlefields Post 144.) Several Post members met with Andy Babic and discussed the steps needed to get our Junior Shooting Sports Program started. We will delay implementation until August—the Scouts are at Summer Camp during July. Instructor classes will be scheduled around our area this Fall. Andy has a large number of individuals who need to re certify their C.M.P. license.
Newsflash:
A prospective Rider must first be a current member, in good standing, in one of the three organizations of the American Legion Family:
- The American Legion
- The American Legion Auxiliary
- The Sons of The American Legion
The American Legion Riders have also adopted the following basic eligibility rules for membership:
- All members of the American Legion Riders must hold individual membership in The American Legion, The American Legion Auxiliary, or the Sons of The American Legion.
- Members must be the legally registered owner of a motorcycle or be the spouse of the legally registered owner within the state of registration.
- All operators must be properly licensed and insured per applicable Commonwealth of Virginia law.
- All members will obey the motor vehicle laws in any state in which they are operating a motorcycle or riding as a passenger.
